Smashbox x Lilly Singh: Always On Liquid Lipstick in Bawse Review & Swatches
If you binge watch YouTube videos in your spare time like I do, I'm sure that you've stumbled across Lilly Singh, also known as Superwoman. Lilly isn't a beauty vlogger, but instead, one of the most hilarious comedians I've ever virtually encountered. She combines her upbeat personality with her sarcastic humor in every single video. If you ever have one of those days where you just need a laugh, watch ANY of Lilly's videos. She's an instant mood-booster!
When I heard that Smashbox was collaborating with a non-beauty vlogger to promote their new Always On Liquid Lipstick formula, I was a little skeptical. Now if I'm being perfectly honest, I don't know how much say Lilly actually had into the formulation of this product, but I'm assuming she was the inspiration behind the color (please correct me if I'm wrong!).
The color that Lilly supposedly created is called Bawse. It is a medium neutral red. This is a very universally flattering lipstick shade. With that being said, the color is definitely not unique. Honestly, this wouldn't have been the color I purchased from the collection if Lilly's name wasn't on it. But what can I say? I LOVE Lilly, and I will happily support her business endeavors (especially if they continue to come in lipstick form!).
There was something about this product that caught me off guard: the formula. It's FABULOUS. I mean, REALLY amazing! It has one-swipe pigmentation. It dries down to a very comfortable, matte finish. It remains a little tacky on the lips (although not sticky or uncomfortable). This means it has a very long, comfortable wear. The formula combined with the pigmentation of the color provides me with a full day's worth of wear (even through eating and drinking). Seriously, I applied this lipstick at 10am and I didn't reapply at all throughout the day. Eight hours and three full meals later, it still looked great! I didn't even feel the need to reapply before I went out for the night. Now that's definitely saying something!
The closest formula I already have in my collection is the OFRA Liquid Lipsticks. I actually think Smashbox triumphs over OFRA in terms of wear time, but to be fair, I've only tried this one color. I don't know how the lighter and more neutral colors wear...yet. Don't you worry, I already have some more of these in my Sephora.com cart!
Here's a closer look at the packaging:
As you can see, the outer packaging has a cardboard sleeve over it with Lilly's name and some inspirational words like "conquer," "powerful," "smile," and "reach goals."
Here's a look at Bawse on my skin tone:
Overall, I'm very pleased with this formula and this color. I will definitely be purchasing some more of these in the future, and depending on how many I get, you may see a full review video on YouTube. But at least for now, you know that this formula has my stamp of approval!
